Massage therapy is proven to be an effective method of preventing and treating diseases and injuries as it helps to enhance the functioning of all body systems. Whether through improving posture, muscle tone, and joint mobility of the musculoskeletal system or encouraging blood and lymph flow in turn increasing the efficiency of the circulatory and immune systems, massage therapy mechanically affects the body in a positive way. Our respiratory systems benefit from improved breathing patterns and our digestive systems experience better uptake of nutrients from food allowing a better flow of oxygen and other essential substances to all body tissues. Furthermore, our nervous systems benefit from improved sensory stimulation as well as coordination skills and our hormonal systems increase production of endorphins and oxytocin that promote healing and a sense of wellbeing.
CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a light-touch manual approach that enhances the body’s natural healing capabilities. The CranioSacral Therapy practitioner essentially helps the body release restrictions – which it has been unable to overcome on its own – that inhibit the body’s normal, self-correcting tendencies. Rather than deciding how these changes should be made, the therapist follows cues from the body on how to proceed. When the therapist follows this gentle approach, the method is extremely safe and effective. A CranioSacral massage therapy session is an integration of CranioSacral therapy and gentle massage therapy techniques.
CranioSacral massage therapy is billable as Massage Therapy through extended health insurance.

This is a type of relaxation massage that we’ve termed ‘Wellness Massage’ as that more accurately describes the goal of the service – it creates a feeling of overall ‘wellness’, not simply ‘relaxation’. These Wellness Massages will surpass your expectations of what a typical spa massage encompasses. Our intuitive and skilled practitioner is a student of the 2200 hour massage therapy training program.
During this non-RMT massage, Swedish massage techniques are utilized to provide a transformative experience that is both relaxing and invigorating – a brilliant solution for every individual. A Wellness Massage can include full-body or more focused care including areas like the hands, feet, face, or scalp. Light to firm pressure can be used to support the body in times of high stress, injury, or perhaps as a treat before a special occasion.
Please note that this practitioner is not registered with the College of Massage Therapists of BC and therefore treatments may not be covered by extended medical benefits. Some extended medical plans do cover ‘relaxation massage’ or ‘wellness care’ as part of their benefits package. If you are lucky enough to have that coverage, please choose Westshore Massage for this service!
For some practitioners these appointments are only available for a limited time; once our students get their registration the intention is for them to stay with us as RMTs.

MLD is a treatment for those with Lymphedema, which is a protein-rich swelling caused by a problem in the lymph system. MLD moves fluid from non-functioning areas to adjacent vessels and nodes using a light massage technique which stimulates lymph flow. It can: increase muscle contraction around lymph vessels; increase relaxation; decrease pain; increase suction effect without increasing blood pressure in lymph system; and can be beneficial for acute trauma such as whiplash, bruising and pre and post surgery to expedite healing time.
MLD is billable as Massage Therapy through extended health insurance.
During pregnancy a woman's body undergoes many changes. For many women, this time is affected by various stresses both physical and emotional. Massage Therapy is a natural solution for reducing stress and achieving an overall sense of well-being during pregnancy and postpartum.
Massage Therapy is a soothing and natural treatment for the swelling, muscle tension, and general discomfort associated with pregnancy. Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs) use unique techniques to improve circulation and drainage, and decrease muscular tension associated with the changes that take place in your pelvis and hips. RMTs can offer tips on hydrotherapy, remedial exercise, self-massage and posture correction that will help pregnant women be more comfortable at home, between visits.
